Question Why??? W-H-Y???

First of all, I would like to say that I am very excited and looking forward to Guild Wars 2. It seems like it will be an amazing game, even better than the best I have played on Guild Wars.

BUT, why the hell did ArenaNet announce Guild Wars 2 already??? Why couldn't they wait until early 2008 to do this? Now, I feel as if everything I'm doing in Guild Wars is pointless. Even including the "Monument," I still feel that ArenaNet should have postponed the announcement of Guild Wars 2. Now, there's no point in getting fancy armor or perfect Elemental Swords, etc. This makes me enjoy the game less. Geez, they had to announce the release 1-1.5 years beforehand, huh? Well, that SUCKS.

Guild Wars 1 is like half way through its "life time" til GW 2 is released..... Anyway, im not fussed about losing items and would rather play until GW 2 is released and enjoy what I am spending my gold on.

it was poor planning, I think, but its too late now to take it back.

I am looking forward to the 'expansion' gw:en as I loved the catacombs and welcome snowy areas.....I will continue to play gw1 even after the other is released since I doubt I will have the ability to even play the next gw due to its changes---movement, other games with similar movement make me physically ill to watch, so I wont bother with gw2. I will get the new armors and such and play uw/fow and sf with all my toons....
I feel now we have a conclusion to the game, and many other games I have loved to play have endings as well, this is no different.

you know what yanman.be, i laugh at myself too for still playing this game. maybe i should do something else til GW2, cuz anyting i do now = nothing for GW2. and whats up with this gay no-mouse movement? the one and ONLY way i move in any MMO (excluding RuneScape) is by clicking left and right mouse and just turning camera. ROFL, now were gonna swim and slide too? Guild Wars always had a special feel to it, very unique. now its just... for loss of a better word... ODD. I seriously wont be surprised if they start introducing mounts, also.

EDIT: and with the release of GW2, most people will like it and move on to it. but some people, such as cosyfiep and myself, will probably not play it becuz of all the excessive useless sh*t theyre adding. Maybe we like GW cuz its a 90% combat game without things like fishing, mining, etc. i hope it at least stays that way in GW2.

That's not a problem. Mouses are for aiming anyway lol. Dude, please try and look at it this way... GW1 is still here, an update is coming up, and even after GW2 launches, they will continue to support the first game. You'll have 2 games to play instead of 1, with no monthly fee.

Why is it pointless? The game was always going to end at somepoint. I doubt this is the only game you have ever played either. You play for the enjoyment of the game, when its over you find a new one. How does knowing the game is going to end have any effect on the level of enjoyment?

The game was going to end no matter what. You can't change that. Although knowing the end is near makes a difference, it was always going to come. Instead of sulking about it, just find the enjoyment in it now. It was always there, and it will be until well after GW2 comes out. Instead of sulking about the end, play the game. The only thing that you're doing by refusing to play Guild Wars because Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon is making the game end sooner.

Besides, mouse-clicking ftw? In my opinion clicking on a spot of land is not a fun way to move around. I use the arrow keys to move around while holding down the mouse to move the camera. A lot of the time I have mouse-movement disabled because it gets annoying when I'm targeting those stupid necro/rits in Heroes' Ascent. They aren't getting rid of mouse camera control, just click-on-ground movement.

Why is everyone so upset about more realism? If anything that makes the game more fun because you can do all kinds of things to get to your destination. Jumping and swimming towards my destination keeps the game fresh and enjoyable. Though I didnt have a problem with the movement of Guild Wars, I found it almost more enjoyable to move around in my World of Warcraft trial account I bought. (Though their targeting system is blech >.<)

GW 2 is looking to be amazing, and though we may feel less compelled to play GW1 because of it, we should ignore that fact and look foward to Hard Mode and Eye of the North. Those are some of the best updates we will have. Don't get upset, enjoy the game!!!

EDIT: I also recommend getting the PC Gamer article. That might give everyone better outlook on all of this.

Guild Wars isn't going anywhere, even after GW2 is released. Sure, people will move on to GW2 or other games, they do that anyway. I mean, whenever a new car model comes out car owners don't automatically junk their old one.

A lot of people seek to get their money's worth from their original investment before jumping into something new.

If you played Guild Wars completely, to the point that you have no more challenges, then..move on.

With the type of expansion coming out for Guild Wars and the trilogy being made available as a single purchase, Guild Wars will likely see a lot of new players joining the game.

If anything I find knowing that a game wont be around for ever drives me to do more, I want to do as much as possible before it finishes.

I suppose it depends on your reason for playing the game. If you play for enjoyment then I doubt the announcement of the next game will have much of an effect. If you play for ingame rewards such as money, titles, eq etc then yes I can see that knowing all of that will soon mean nothing would effect you.

Perhaps this might get more people to play for fun until GW2 rather than doing what seems to me as work!

From the way people are complaining you would think this was the first new game ever made. You can't carry your crap from EQ1 to EQ2, or from Diablo1 to Diablo2, etc. Why would this be any different?

Announcement too early? Maybe... I dunno. But now or a year from now, does it really matter? Nothing lasts forever and if you have been playing all this time thinking your character and items would last forever then you were already setting yourself up for disappointment. ANet is just trying to move on and offer something fresh and interesting after a few years...

1. Announcing GW2 with descriptions of features, answers all the fan posts asking for: jumping, playable races, persistant world, less skill-reliant PvP, higher levels, etc. All coming with new game.

2. Announcing GW:EN answers all the fan posts asking for: more Gwen, Charr homeland, opening unmapped areas, less interference in PvE due to PvP skill usage, future of chapters and new professions.

3. I bought this game over a year ago. At the time, I never dreamed I would be playing it for several years. I have had favored games that I would replay (or start to replay) occasionally, but none that was still consuming my gaming time a year later. The announcement of GW2 has not changed my feelings about GW. It is still the best game I have ever played.

This is the Q&A Forum, not the forum to discuss GW2, ANet's decision to announce it now, etc and so on. Thus..
